FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

GENERAL FAQ

How does pottery painting work?

  • Pottery painting is a fun activity for people of all ages! To paint with us, you come into Fun Time Pottery, select a piece (already made), paint it in store with the provided supplies, and leave it with us so we can glaze and fire it.

Do we get to take it home with us the same day?

  • No, after you finish painting, you leave the piece with us so we can glaze and fire it. This process takes us two weeks. Your pick up date will be two weeks from the day you come, and you can come pick up your finished pieces on or after that date. If you need it sooner, we offer the option to pay a $5 rush fee per piece. Rush fire pieces will be ready one week from the painting date.

Do we need a reservation to come in and paint?

  • In general, we do not require reservations. However, we recommend them for groups larger than 4 people and for peak times, such as weekends and school holidays. When in doubt, you can always call ahead to make sure we have space!

How long does it take to paint?

  • The time it takes to paint pottery varies by person. It depends on several different aspects, such as how detailed you want to be and what piece you choose. We recommend allowing at least an hour and a half so that you do not have to feel rushed.

What is the latest we can come in?

  • We are open daily from 10 AM - 6 PM. Because of the time it takes to select and paint your pottery piece(s), and the time it takes to ring you up and check out, we seat our last painters no later than 4:30 PM. On Thursdays, we offer extended hours (10 AM - 9 PM) by appointment only. We request that you reserve at least 24 hours in advance if you plan on booking an extended hour appointment.

What happens if I don’t finish before you close?

  • We offer Work-In-Progress (WIP)! If you aren’t able to finish before closing, we will wrap up your piece and send it home with you, and you can come back for one additional session for no added fee! After one WIP session, all subsequent sessions will have a $5 fee for supplies.

How much does it cost? Do you have a studio fee?

  • We price by the piece and do not have a studio fee, so your total varies based on what you choose to paint. We have a good selection of items between $25-$40. As pieces get larger and more complex, the prices increase. As stated before, we do not have a studio fee! The price you see in front of the piece includes everything. You’re just paying that plus tax!

My pottery pick up date has passed. Do you still have my piece?

  • We keep finished pieces for 30 days after the pick up date. We cannot guarantee to still have your pieces past that window, as we have limited storage space and have to cycle out old pieces. If you are worried that you won’t be able to make it by the end of our 30-day window, call us and we can make a note to keep it for up to 30 days more.

  • Don’t worry! We will not get rid of any pieces without making two-three calls to the number on file with your ticket first.

Can we make the pottery ourselves? Do you have pottery wheels?

  • No, we do not have pottery wheels and do not offer walk-in pottery making. We occasionally have clay classes where we work on guided projects, but we do not offer clay making on a day-to-day basis.

Do you offer canvas painting?

  • Canvas painting requires a reservation at least 48 hours ahead of time so that we can prepare for it. We also do not offer this during our peak hours, such as during weekends or on school holidays.

I live far away from Fun Time Pottery. Do you ship finished pieces?

  • We can ship your pottery at your cost!  We do prefer to ship via USPS flat rate shipping.  You can also have  friend or family pick up, or to pick up the next time you are in town.

Do you repair pottery?

  • Unfortunately, we cannot repair broken pottery. Without knowing the exact origin of the piece, we cannot put anything in our kiln – it is a safety risk. Additionally, it is quite difficult to repair broken ceramics in a way that is unnoticeable. We recommend coming and painting something in replacement if you are looking to fix a broken piece.

Birthday Parties and Events FAQ

How do I book a birthday party?

  • There are three ways you can book: through our online booking form, over the phone by calling us, or by coming into the store!

How do the parties work?

  • Parties are an hour and a half and consist of about 45 minutes to an hour of pottery painting in the main studio, followed by eating in the party room. Guests will pick out one piece from the designated shelf (we have three different shelves and each shelf corresponds to one of the party packages). After painting, all pieces are left with us so we can glaze and fire them, and in two weeks, they are ready for pick up by the party host! We package each piece in a gift bag with a name label so that the party host has an easier time distributing to the guests!

How many guests can I have?

  • Our party room can fit around 20 kids. For parties larger than that, we request you book a closed studio party. These parties can either be at 10 AM or 5 PM.

Can the parents of the guests stay for the party?

  • In general, we request that parties are drop-off due to limited space. If you would like the parents to stay, we do require that you book a closed studio party.

Can I book an event other than a birthday party?

  • Of course! To book an event, just call us at 516-872-2400 and we will iron out the details! These events most often occur after hours (for example, a Friday night from 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM). We charge a $50 closed studio fee; if you would like to bring drinks and/or food, we charge an additional $50-$100 depending upon the refreshments you are bringing. Feel free to give us a call if you have any questions!
